You have been studying Spanish for some time and are comfortable carrying on conversations on a large variety of topics. You are always looking for additional, fun ways to practice and as you love watching Netflix series in Spanish, come and join us once a week to discuss a specific series!

Learning Spanish with Spanish-language TV series is a great way to retain vocabulary and grammar, get used to various accents and forms of speech, as well as learn about the cultures and lifestyles of various Spanish-speaking countries.
Watching a series and discussing it weekly helps you learn and retain authentic Spanish without having to physically travel and spend considerable amounts of time in various parts of the Spanish speaking world!

Each week, you will be assigned an episode to watch at home and asked to prepare to discuss it in class. The series we have chosen will be available on Netflix which has the advantage of having Spanish-language subtitles (among others) to assist you when in doubt. We will recommend techniques to help you improve your Spanish, grow your vocabulary, and perfect your accent as you prepare your “homework”.

This session’s series will be La cocinera de Castamar, a beautifully well-written period piece with outstanding cinematography and characters who each bring unique flavors to the drama.

Please note that there are significant linguistic advantages to watching a period piece like this one; you will not be bombarded with overly informal or vulgar language; while it is good to be able to recognize such language, it will most likely not come in particularly handy when you try to express yourself during future travels to Spanish-speaking countries. The language you will hear most of the time will be clean, easier to understand, and while very “castellano”, your instructor will be able to point out phrases, idioms, or saying that may not travel as well from Spain to Latin America, and make suggestions for their equivalents.

Sinopsis
