Bastille Day Celebration 2017

At The Language Exchange, a summer is never quite complete without a gathering of sorts for Bastille Day.

This year, 2017, a group of nearly fifty fellows gathered for a sunset sail in beautiful Casco Bay aboard the Wendameen, one of the two ships sailed by Portland Schooner.

Prepared with wine, cheese, and other picnic foods the happy few boarded the Wendameen for a two-hour sail during which French chatters accompanied the gentle evening breeze and warm ochre light. Half-way through, the jolly chaps in canotier hats and striped shirts launched into La Marseillaise in a surge of patriotism.

No doubt our new president, Mr. Emmanuel Macron, would have been proud of this little group of Francophiles in Le Nouveau Monde.

Vive la France!

Vive l’amitié franco-américaine!

Special thanks to the staff of Portland Schooner and the crew of the Wendameen for a job well-done and to all the photographers who contributed to this album (Wayne Barter, Linda Green, Evan Mainois, Joline Perkins, Joel Wuesthoff, and yours truly V.G.)
